Liftoff! 🚀

No matter how quotidian a rocket launch may become, it will always remain a sight of wonder to me.

Winter Ink PeerTube will allow for the documenting and preservation of videos to which I can link in my ongoing speculations about life and art. Links, and the content they reference, which are permanent and will always work. A necessity to promote the adoption of individually-owned and controlled sovereign spaces which enable an open and healthy web.

Here goes for my #introduction

@privacytools is shuting down their Mastodon instance (for now), so I'm moving to #fosstodon!

I'm an amateur, freelance writer predominantly covering privacy. I'm also a team member at PrivacyTools, amongst other things.

This account might not last that long on this instance, but I'm happy to be here.

‘It's hard to break into the global top ten of insufferably arrogant political acts. You need to do something really memorable — something to match Imelda Marcos's shoe collection, assembled while her husband presided over an increasingly impoverished country. Or the Soviet regime’s creation of special reserved 'ZiL lanes' in Moscow to speed government high-ups through the rush hour traffic.

But Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak may well have just managed it.’

‘On 20 June 1948 the Americans allowed Ludwig Erhard to cut this Gordian knot with the most extraordinary move in modern economic history. Personal savers with 1,000 Reichsmarks woke up with only 65 Deutschmarks. The government was virtually freed of all debt. But the Porsches, Krupps and Quandts, who had built up vast but useless Reichsmark profit balances… were allowed simply to cross out the word ‘Reichsmarks’ in their accounts and replace it with ‘Deutschmarks’.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn once said ‘let each man choose: Will he remain a witting servant of the lies….or has the time come for him to stand straight as an honest man, worthy of the respect of his children and contemporaries?’.

The Sanskrit word Ragamala, ‘garland of ragas’, are Indian musical modes (ragas), which evoke moods or emotions. Ragamala paintings are the visual expression and this one depicts the musical mode Gujari Ragini, with a lady awaiting her absent lover.

‘The future of computers will be divided into neighborhoods and nursing homes. In the traditional neighborhoods, residents truly own their property, can repair and improve it themselves (or hire a professional), aren’t constantly under surveillance, and they and their guests can come and go as they please. These residents will control their own security and be able to lock their doors with their own keys.’
